An authentic island experience!

Bottle Tree Island House

About The Bottle Tree House

The Bottle Tree House is a Belize Gold Standard accommodation. But if glitzy condos on crowded beaches is your thing, you might look elsewhere. If it is about being with family or friends under the same roof while you experience the charms of Caye Caulker then The Bottle Tree House might be right for you!

The Bottle Tree House stands alone as a single residential dwelling. It was built the Belizan way for natural island living and for the owner’s large family. The house was completely redecorated about 3 years ago for “lounging” relaxation and is filled with island colors and local art.

With the recent addition of an 11-foot deep porch across the front of the house, The Bottle Tree House is one of the most spacious homes on the island.

Common to island built houses, there is no “air conditioning”.  However, there are 28 windows that are open to island breezes, ceiling and floor fans in every room, and porch ceiling fans that will blow you into the palm trees hugging the house. Many guests have reported how surprisingly comfortable they were and how they more quickly acclimated to outside activities.

Note!  Common to island built houses, there is no “air conditioning”.  However, there are 28 windows that are open to island breezes, ceiling and floor fans in every room, and porch ceiling fans that will blow you into the palm trees hugging the house.

This home is one of the few on the Caye that can accommodate a family under one roof. Ideally situated close to the village but away from the hustle, it is just a few minutes stroll or bike ride to the beach. The house is nestled into its own jungle garden and shaded by impressive palms and Gumbo Limbo trees. Under the house is a fun play space with hammocks and chairs surrounded by huge ferns and tropical plantings.

The Space

3 Bedroom - 2 Full Baths

The house has much to offer for small groups of friends or families.

The master bedroom is spacious. It has a Juliet balcony in the back looking toward the sea (well, ok, looking over the palms and sea grapes toward the sea) and an ensuite bathroom. It also locks off from the main area and has a separate exterior door opening onto the small porch.

The second queen bedroom is comfortably situated in the middle of the house which makes it really quiet.  The 3rd bedroom has two twin beds, great for kids or  “just friends” adults.

The bathrooms are both large and feature roomy tile showers.

Let’s just say, the house can accommodate a variety of folks.  No one needs sleep on the couch or the hammocks.

Kitchen, Living, Dining & 2 Porches

The kitchen, living and dining area is an open-concept design under a vaulted ceiling. The kitchen is fully equipped down to spices in the rack. It features a full sized 6-burner range with flat grill and large oven built into the kitchen island.  The dining table comfortably seats 6 to 8 folks, with 2 extra bar stool settings at the island counter.

The living area spills out onto two porches.  One open to the sky and ideal for star gazing or sun bathing and the new porch, off the living area, is under roof with sky lights, hammocks, porch seating and a barrel basket full of yoga mats.

The Loft

For those of you with children, a large, open loft with ladder is available for the kids to have their own space to get away from the adults for a bit. There is even a third small deck off the master suite ideal for an early morning coffee as the sun rises while enjoying the foliage, birds, and the sounds of the day’s bustle beginning.

Exterior Garden & Covered Play Space

The grounds and gardens around the house are easily enjoyed snoozing in outdoor hammocks, or sipping on a cool Belikin in the big lounge chairs.  There is a spacious, open, clean sandy area under the elevated house ideal for game playing or kid frolics.

Lots on two sides of the house are undeveloped. While the public / guests are not allowed on the property, everyone gets to enjoy the huge trees and vegetation.

Bikes Are Free

There are up to 4 bikes included in the house rental. Additional bikes are available for rental from numerous village merchants.

The Sea, The Beach & Reef View – Just Around The Corner

Walk or bike one block left or right from The Bottle Tree House and you can see the enchanting aqua color of the sea.  One more block or there about puts you on the beach. For runners and power walkers or just strollers and bird watchers, you can get a nice workout going to the South End of the island which is less developed and off the grid – but likely not for long!  Head north on the beach and enjoy the huge palms, ocean front homes, and be in the center of the village in 10 minutes.  Keep strolling and in another 10 or 15 minutes you will be at the Split. It’s a little island!

One last note. If you choose to stay at the Bottle Tree House, make a point to create some silent time or notice the reef rhythms just before dropping off the sleep. You can hear the sea breaking against the barrier and also see it on a clear day when beach walking.

Guest Access

Guests have full access to the house, though you can limit the number bedrooms for a little savings. Say, if you only need the master bedroom and bath, the other two bedrooms will be locked off.  Regardless of the number of sleeping spaces which you rent, you will have access to all of the general living/dining/cooking space.

InLand Retreat

A renewing off-grid experience!

InLand Belize at The WayStationFarm!

How the story began in May 2021

The WayStation Farm is our InLand home. Right now, when we are at the WayStation Farm, we reside in the The Tin Shack and spend evening times with friends, grilling and chilling on the porch before we move to yard chairs for star-gazing and listening to chattering conversations of the evening.

Fast forward to August 2023.

The Waystation Update

Took a while longer than planned because we decided to dress up the   place a bit more!  Check out the Gallery for our “Progress Pics. We have already enjoyed family and friends visiting over this past year.  Gave us a chance to see if all the plumbing worked!  It did!  Along with the Solar Grid.

The Tin Cottage

The Tin Shack got an upgrade.  Maybe we’ll call it The Tin Cottage.  After we moved over to The Big House, we installed new windows, walls, and happy colors. Two bedrooms upstairs and the option for a single downstairs or a mixed-use space – office, studio, or media room maybe?

The house will be fully furnished with everything you need for short and long stays.  The nearly ½ acre yard is fenced should your pets be traveling with you including a horse or two.  Good internet if you just must work!  Oh yes.  No wash boards or clothes lines either.  Laundry can be done in the new Wash House that serves the Tin Shack and The Big House.

The Big House

The Big House is just that — big on comfort for families or small groups of friends.  It’s interior is completed and furnished (save the installation of a new staircase which is in the works)  The house has all that “farm charm” with 4 bedrooms and full bath upstairs,  second full bath down stairs and either a single bedroom, office or exercise room .

The main floor is an open plan living area.  It features a custom-built modern kitchen, breakfast nook, and separate pantry. A beautiful Belizean wood counter for seating and prepping is in the center of the space opening on to a dining area and living room furnished for charm and comfort.

There is an upper breezy balcony over the living room space ideal for reading, working puzzles or just gazing at the views through 9 wood louvered windows.

The Wash House

The Wash House if a free standing little house – just a few steps from the Tin Cottage and The Big House . Not quite finished yet but getting close. You can enjoy 21st century conveniences of a modern washer and dryer. Unless you just prefer a washboard and clothesline! Got that too. There is also a large laundry sink, and folding table surrounded by lovely glass louvered windows, allowing for cool breezes and visual enjoyment of the charming flower gardens.

The property could be ideal for intimate retreats, yoga, or mediation groups of a family reunion get away.  Just some ideas we are exploring while we presently enjoy living there.

In The Works! The “Swimming Hole”

Rather than tear it down and fill it in, we opted to go forward with converting an old large concrete water cilo that is very close to The Big House, into a nice little “The Swimming Hole!  This will include a large patio area with pavers and landscaping for comfortable space of “dipping” and “sitting” amidst what clearly looks to be a small Myan pyramid now covered in a variety of towering Belizean hardwood and fruit trees, jungle palms, and flowers, flowers, flowers!  Oh!  Plenty of big sky at night for striking star gazing.

Oh, Go Take a Hike!

What a good idea!  Hiking is available now for the strong at heart and leg, depending on what you want to see and experience over these 65 acres and the surrounding area. However, just another project in progress, we are making this experience available to those,  lets’ say – less athletic, by providing well cut hiking paths over the property.  Or if you just want a slow stroll wander through the jungle gardens close to the houses.  We look forward to adding the a little DoJo Meditation Hut in the center of the Jungle Garden for more private contemplation.

Big Sky & Country Quiet

The Waystation has easy access from the new Mountain Pine Ridge highway.  It is about 4+ miles scenic drive from the community of Georgeville to the Barton Creek Reserve turn off.  We are about 1 ½ miles to the 4-way junction of Cool Shade Road and the road to Seven Mile Village. The road is gravel but well maintained by the property owners in the area.  There are many of the most popular tourist attractions within 20 to 30 minutes of this location.

While we are still in the preliminary stages of getting officially set up for rentals short and/or long-term rentals, if something catches your interest give us a holler.  We are looking at the last quarter of 2023 as a time we could commit to some rental arrangement at The Waystation.

If you are making plans for 2024 for a family reunion, a wedding, a retreat, or just a Good Friends trip, think about doing something different from a hotel experience.

Or help you with an Inland & Island arrangement!
