WayStation Farm
Coming Soon!
InLand Belize at The WayStation Farm!
It ain’t fancy! It’s an old Mennonite Farm off the grid! We found it occupied with lovely Mennonite families needing to relocate to a new community. Driving up the tree bowed lane to the main house we were immediately seduced with the land, the location, and its cleansing natural beauty. Oh! So quiet! And oh, so sold to us!
There are two old Mennonite farm houses! We call them “The Tin Shack” and “The Big House”! Plus other farm structures like The Shop and the Truck Shed that once housed the Community Hardware Store. And there remains a functioning horse shed overlooking acres of beautiful Upper Barton Creek undulating pastures and valleys of innumerable fruit trees.
Since May 2021 we have been clearing, pruning, mowing, and doing some upgrades to the houses to allow for a little more convenience and comfort than our Mennonite friends choose, but while keeping the experience of this place closest to its natural surroundings.
We don’t intend to have a large working farm on the property, but friends, family, and guests will certainly know they have dialed down the inner chatter, turned off the glitz and glamor for deep breaths of the freshest air and quiet nights of starry starry skies.
That is why it’s The WayStation…
The WayStation is our InLand Home. Right now, when we are at the WayStationFarm, we reside in the The Tin Shack and spend evening times with friends, grilling and chilling on the porch before we move to yard chairs for star-gazing and listening to chattering conversations of the evening.
“The Shack” can comfortably accommodate 5 adults. There are 2 queen bedrooms and a full bath upstairs, not to mention a 4×8 wall hanging of Van Gough’s Starry Starry Night. There is a comfortable fold-out couch down below with ½ bath on the ground floor.
We do have the 19th century surrounding us with the most wonderful Mennonite neighbors working their farms and raising their families. But we also have the security of a robust solar system and a good Internet service. Water is Nature supplied, fresh rain and stored for year around use. No wash boards though. We installed a washing machine from the beginning. And recently conceded to getting a gas dryer as the rainy season was lengthy this year.
The Big House is just that. Kind of barn-like. It will be about to house 8 to 10 folks. We are planning for a fully equipped kitchen, small breakfast coffee nook next to a comfy sitting area around a wood stove. And of course, a huge family-sized table – probably round, with lazy susans in the middle for meals filled with fresh healthy food and big laughter. Bedrooms are all upstairs with another lounge area, great for games, puzzles and the like. In the plans is the addition of a big balcony to be added across the full length of the front of the house. Lots of front row seats to the big sky views day and night.
There will be one more space for a quiet work out on the pilates reformer, and a huge screened porch on the front of the house ideal for yoga or other kinds of gatherings.
As with The Bottle Tree House, we see select opportunities to share our country home with friends, families, and perhaps small groups who may like to capture a bigger Belize experience with an Island / Inland experience.
In the meantime, stay tuned and browse through the pictures of the work in progress. If it looks like an adventure you might couple with your Bottle Tree / Island experience or if you want to bring a small group together for retreats on a budget or family gatherings on vacation, drop us a note.
